Answer: Meaningful access to justice requires meaningful access to resources. One Can Help is a social justice 501c3 tackling poverty barriers. OCH's mission is to provide the missing resources underserved at-risk youth, foster children and struggling families urgently need to remedy court concerns, improve difficult lives and/or build better futures. Providing this assistance helps the chronically underfunded juvenile court and child welfare systems more equitably support our most vulnerable and makes better outcomes possible for all. * OCH provides individualized needs- statewide. OCH's innovative model: By partnering with juvenile court attorneys, social workers and other verifiable child advocates, OCH can provide critical resources not available elsewhere. Theory of change: Juvenile court-appointed attorneys and social workers are appointed to help their clients when there are concerns about a child's care or behavior. The is the time to make sure resources are available so constructive gains can be made. Often resources are what is missing and precious times goes by without progress. Court/child welfare concerns and poverty are often entwined, and it can be hard to discern lack of effort from lack of means when resources are not available. The vast majority of children and families in these systems are poor and minorities are over-represented. Many do not have access to the types of basic resources we all need to thrive- laptops, connectivity, transportation, extracurricular activities, summer camps, heat, warm clothes, enough food, stable housing..... By providing this targeted assistance we can support our most vulnerable children, help more children avoid foster care, prevent family instability, reduce the need for further court involvement, and improve outcomes for all - when poverty is what is preventing positive steps forward. Assistance can often be provided in just 1-2 days!
