The Old Town Art Fair is a volunteer-run effort, over 600 neighbors and friends' are personally invested in helping artists have a successful event. Another thing that hasnt changed are the homes that form the backdrop to artists tents. This landmark district, nestled in the heart of Lincoln Park, maintains the same facades that residents fought (and continue to fight) to preserve. The Old Town Art Fair is a juried Fine Art Fair, exclusively. Artwork must first and foremost be an artistic expression; utilitarian purposes must be secondary. All work must be designed and handmade by the accepted artist and the artist must be present during the Fair. The display and sale of commercial reproductions of any kind are not allowed. Each year, artists are reviewed and chosen by an independent jury of experienced professionals including gallery owners, artists and museum curators. Jurors are recruited from the Chicago art community and represent a variety of disciplines. The 250 artists who are chosen to exhibit each year are a mix of returning and newly juried-in (50% each). Many who are not initially selected reapply and return. A well-orchestrated Friday afternoon set-up allows artists time to assemble their booths and manage all the necessary behind-the-scenes efforts at a leisurely pace. Artists start their Saturday morning refreshed. Our art patrons are discerning, art-educated, and loyal art buyers. The Old Town Art Fair markets extensively to Chicagoans and visitors alike. Advertising in major transit locations, working with hotel concierges, targeting local neighborhoods and specific suburbs; our PR committee works to ensure the fullest range of advertising is provided to potential buyers.
