Answer: The National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana is the major statewide voluntary non-profit health organization dedicated to preventing kidney disease, improving the health and well-being of individuals affected by this disease, and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation. The NKFL provides vital patient and community services, conducts extensive public and professional education, advocates for patients through legislative action, and supports kidney research to identify new treatments. Our programs and services include summer dialysis camp program for children; financial assistance to patients; helping to ensure kidneys will be available for transplantation; research and training for physicians and other health professionals; and statewide patient education and prevention programs like "KEEPing Your Kidneys Healthy", a free one day health screening program designed to identify individuals "at risk" for kidney disease due primarily to hypertension, diabetes and/or chronic renal failure.
