Answer: The Mon Valley Alliance is a Certified Economic Development Organization (CEDO), recognized by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), dedicated to improving the economy in the Middle-Monongahela Valley of Southwestern Pennsylvania (Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland Counties), just south of Pittsburgh, PA. The MVA traces its roots back to 1965 with the purchase and subsequent redevelopment of the first steel mill closing in the United States located in Donora, PA. Since then, the MVA, along with its affiliate, the Mon Valley Foundation (a 501(c)3 nonprofit), has developed industrial parks, remediated environmentally impacted areas, removed blighted properties from downtown corridors, provided low interest loans to new and growing businesses, supported area nonprofits through grant programs, provided no fee assistance to local municipalities with code and ordinance writing, comprehensive planning, grant writing and served as a regional champion for transformation projects.
