Answer: We are a student-run, nonprofit street-side clinic, composed of physicians and volunteers from UCLA who provide medical and social services to the homeless and underserved populations in West Hollywood and Santa Monica. Every Wednesday night, we operate our clinic on the corner of Sycamore and Romaine with undergraduate, medical, and public health students in a collaborative effort to bring healthcare to this population. In a safe non-judgmental environment, we provide a combination of direct medical services; health promotion and disease prevention activities; social support and case management; legal services; and referrals to medical and social resources. Our mission has always been to improve the health outcomes and quality of life for individuals who are homeless and/or low-income in our society. Too often, these are the people who have been ignored, ostracized, and silenced by societal and political neglect. To stand up for them is to give them a voice in a world that has accelerated in technology and industry, but far too little in humanism and social justice.
