Answer: The Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority (MeVa) is the regional transit authority for northern Essex County, providing fare free bus service to 16 cities and towns in the Merrimack River Valley. Our fixed routes are predominantly based out of our Lawrence and Haverhill hubs, and we provide service to key employment, healthcare, and shopping locations in the surrounding communities of Andover, North Andover, Methuen, Groveland, Merrimac, Amesbury, Newburyport, and Salisbury. In addition, we provide a direct commuter route between Lawrence and Lowell and on-demand van service to the communities of Boxford, Newbury, Rowley, West Newbury, and North Reading. For the majority of our region, MeVa Transit serves as the primary source of public transportation. To improve access for our riders, we implemented system-wide fare free service in March 2022 with authorization to remain fare free through Patriots Day 2024. In May 2022, on the coattails of the fare free initiative, MeVa revealed its first peek at rebranding from MVRTA to MeVa Transit. MeVas new bus design, logo, and name, is a celebration of the linguistic and cultural diversity of our region, bringing in the colors of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, while retaining remnants of our regions history by weaving in abstract clockfaces reminiscent of our mill city roots, and subtle ripples and water droplets that honor the Merrimack River the spine of our service area. Additionally, the name MeVa is easy to remember and pronounce in both English and Spanish. The name and color changes coupled with our new tag line Lets Go/Vamos further reinforces our commitment to create a service that represents the people we serve. Newly wrapped buses and the MeVa brand were rolled out to the public in October 2022. Since then, MeVa has nearly completed wrapping existing vans and buses and grown its fleet to better serve the region.
