Answer: The Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony (MAYS) was conceived to continue the legacy of its inspiration and honorary founder, Jonathan May. Since 1984, Mr. May followed his dream of bringing a well-rounded music education to thousands of young students of the Central Florida community. His wife, Mrs. Maureen May and close friend Mr. Michael Miller, themselves distinguished musicians and teachers, founded this orchestra to further Mr. May's life's mission. The MAYS features eight orchestral groups throughout the Orlando and Lake County areas spanning beginner, intermediate and advanced skill levels, as well as a variety of chamber ensemble opportunities, theory and composition, workshops, and a recital series. With classes and direction by those dedicated to the musical mission of Mr. May, the MAYS is a testament to his commitment and to his influence.
