Answer: Mental Health Association Oklahoma, formerly known as Mental Health Association in Tulsa, is an advocacy voice representing people affected by mental illness, homelessness and substance abuse. Since 1955, we have spoken as an independent source to mental health and substance abuse providers, social service agencies, schools regarding the provision of high quality mental health screening and treatment in the community. Our current programs include mental health education to schools, businesses, and the broader community, mental health advocacy addressing prejudice and discrimination directed toward people living in recovery with mental illness, support groups, pro bono counseling, referral and assistance to people experiencing mental health needs, mental health screening, suicide prevention, and crisis response to schools. We also provide peer-to-peer recovery counseling, transitional employment, and housing and support services for people affected by substance abuse, mental illness, release from incarceration and homelessness. These programs all start with advocacy for the people we serve.
