Answer: Older existing homes can be big users of energy and contribute greatly to our CO2 emissions. We provide energy audits for existing homes and make recommendations for energy upgrades. If your home is over 20 years old and has not been evaluated for energy efficiency then you may be able to make significant improvements to reduce energy usage and CO2 emissions. Our Process Data is gathered during the home inspection and is then computer modeled. The inspection focuses on getting data related to building components (walls, floor, ceiling, windows, and doors). Other information recorded relates to lighting, water heating, appliances and heating and cooling. Special equipment is used to quantify the amount of air infiltration in the home (how "drafty" or "tight" the home is). Other equipment is used to quantify the amount of duct leakage. These tests allow for verification of the effectiveness of the air sealing and duct sealing after the job is completed. Once the data is entered and analyzed a detailed report is given to the owner showing the energy upgrades recommended and the projected cost savings.
