Answer: Maryhill Museum of Art provides a window into the world for its surrounding communities and visitors. The museum was incorporated in 1923 and dedicated by Queen Marie of Romania in 1926. It opened to the public in 1940, and since that time has been a major cultural and arts resource, tourist attraction and historical Northwest landmark, welcoming 20,000 to 30,000 regional, national and international visitors annually. It is open daily, March 15 through November 15. It is closed to the public during the winter at which time exhibit work and building maintenance are done. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, governed by an elected 16-member board of trustees, has a full-time staff of eight, and an average annual operating budget of around $1.2 million. Support for the museum comes from a wide variety of donors in addition to its earned income. Each year the museum presents permanent and changing exhibitions and programs related to its mission. The museum is renowned for its collections that include American, European and American Indian works of art. Its exhibitions, programs and activities receive regional, national, and at times, international attention. The immediate park surrounding the museum offers stunning vistas, informal gardens, a sculpture park, and a Lewis and Clark Overlook and garden. The museum is on the National Register and is a recognized site of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.
