Answer: Manitowoc County Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry which builds simple, decent, affordable housing for local families. We coordinate all aspects of Habitat home building in Manitowoc County fundraising, building site selection, family selection and support, house construction and mortgage servicing. As an affiliate, we follow the operational and philosophical guidelines established by Habitat for Humanity International. Using volunteer labor, donated materials, monetary donations and sweat equity by future homeowners allows the affiliate to sell houses at no profit and with no interest charged to low income families in need of affordable housing. The families make mortgage payments and pays taxes an any homeowner does. With the support of the community, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better life for themselves and for their families. Through shelter, we empower. In 2016, we introduced the Habitat Home Repairs program, which is designed to help families live safely and independently in their homes.
