Answer: Makersmiths is a non-profit maker organization whose mission is to create opportunities for people to make things. It's that simple. Founded by a team of technology industry entrepeneurs and executives (who are also inveterate makers, tinkers, inventors and hackers), this organization is our way of bringing our local community more fully into the growing Maker Movement. Chris Anderson, former Editor of Wired Magazine and author of The Long Tail, has said that the maker movement could have a bigger US economic impact than the Internet. After all, while the web has created new ways of selling things, the maker movement is about a whole new way of making things. Makersmiths is enabling adults, children, entrepeneurs and community organization to enter and/or play a bigger role in the maker movement themselves. We do that by creating programs and community, establishing a manufacturing facility (known as a makerspace), providing tools and training, and all of the other support needed to empower makers. The scope of these maker projects range from the emerging platforms of computer aided 3D printed and CNC, to classic wood and metal working, and including a variety of other focus areas as diverse as carbon fiber/fiberglass fabrication, Internet of Things, sewing, protptyping, electronics, robotics, small scale manufacturing, arduino, kinetic sculptures, electronic media and even crafts, growing & cooking.
