Answer: Our Mission: Striving to help our neighbors by providing local food pantries with first-choice, fresh, nutritious and culturally relevant produce. More About Us: For over two decades, the Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens (MAFPG) has grown, gleaned, and donated more than 2 million pounds of over 60 different varieties of first-choice, fresh, nutritious, and culturally relevant produce to the Dane County emergency food system. This amounts to more than 100,000 pounds of produce per season. MAFPG periodically surveys users of the emergency food system to establish what produce is in highest demand. This guides what we grow, and in turn, MAFPG helps create community-level nutrition security by increasing the supply of produce that meets the cultural and health needs of our community. MAFPG has relied on generous landowners, affiliated churches, and other community partners for garden space over the years - and continues to do so for 10 of our 11 gardens located across Dane County. But in Spring 2023 we were able to purchase the 15 acre farm adjacent to the Pope Farm Conservancy, thanks to many donors and a grant from Dane County. This property, our Forward Garden, includes 12 tillable acres of land, a farmhouse, and other farm structures. Owning it will allow us to increase production varieties and quantities, and affords us the opportunity to invest in more sustainable farming practices such as drip irrigation and soil conditioning practices. Over 1,500 volunteers - individual community members and volunteer groups from local businesses - help MAFPG realize its mission each year by contributing their time and efforts at our various garden locations. More than 13,000 individuals have helped us grow food for our neighbors since 2000. MAFPG welcomes individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
