Answer: The Los Angeles Conservancy is a private, member-based nonprofit devoted to preserving, revitalizing, and celebrating the historic places that make Greater Los Angeles unique. Formed in 1978 by a small group of people working to prevent demolition of the Los Angeles Central Library, the Conservancy is now the largest organization of its kind in the U.S., with nearly 6,000 member households and hundreds of volunteers. While the Conservancys efforts span Los Angeles County, were located in downtown L.A. We work through education and advocacy to raise awareness of our architectural heritage, prevent the needless demolition of historic places, and help people preserve places that matter to them. Our walking tours cover a range of topics, from downtowns renaissance to the details of the Art Deco style. Last Remaining Seats, our summer series of classic films in historic theatres, brings more than 10,000 people into Broadways spectacular movie palaces.
