Answer: Since 2020, the Live Music Society has supported initiatives that promote and preserve the performance and experience of live music. When the Covid-19 pandemic shut down live music performances in March 2020, many venues nationwide were threatened, and many did not make it. We responded to this unprecedented need by providing grants to help small music venues survive during months of closure, then assisting them as they welcomed performers and fans back to their stages. Over $2 million in general operating funding was distributed over three grant rounds during the first two years. In 2023, Live Music Society is doubling down on our efforts to highlight the unique contributions of small venues to American culture and support creative ideas and innovation as they get back to doing what they do best: connecting musicians and their communities. We celebrate the unique role small music venues play, and we seek to create a community that can share best practices, innovate to thrive and survive and cultivate the conditions for the next generation to experience the magic of live music.
