Answer: Little Heroes League is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps babies born with multiple health challenges achieve their best life outcomes by funding care coordination that begins in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as early as birth and continues through hospital discharge while at home. The early months in life are when pain reduction can hold tremendous advantages for a babys rapidly growing brain, and when proper interventions such as restoring hearing or vision can impact social, emotional and language development that lasts for a lifetime. Little Heroes League and Lurie Childrens are committed to capturing these opportunities by providing highly coordinated care for these babies. Babies with high-level medical needs are under served and stand to benefit considerably from well-orchestrated care at the very beginning of their lives. Many public and private insurers do not identify these babies immediately after they are born, and can take 6 months or more to offer them care coordination assistance, if they offer it at all. This means that the most critically ill newborns who require multiple complex treatments cannot receive care coordination covered by insurance during this critical developmental time in their lives. The Little Heroes League will provide funding to our partner hospital, Lurie Childrens, to provide care coordination during this critical period and after discharge from the hospital.
