Answer: Lineage Project teaches trauma-aware mindfulness to support the mental health and holistic well-being of young people, ages 11 to 24, navigating incarceration, foster care, homelessness, school suspension, psychiatric care, and other serious challenges. We provide our students with simple, free, and portable tools to manage their own stress levels, deepen their emotional resilience and regulation, strengthen their self-awareness, and foster community bonds. We also teach mindfulness-based professional development to the staff working with young people inside of systemssuch as youth jails, schools, and family homeless shelters. This professional development supports staff in working more effectively and empathetically with young people and reduces the secondary trauma and burnout which lead to staff turnover. Our simultaneous work with young people and staff has a multiplicative impactfostering cultures of interconnection and resilience, and ultimately shifting systems from the inside out.
