Answer: The League of Women Voters of Indiana (LWVIN) is the state chapter of the League of Women Voters, an nonpartisan political organization of 500K+ members. For over 100 years, the League has advocated for voter rights and education, as well as other issues that promote democracy and community well-being. Here are some of the Leagues initiatives: - VOTE411: During the last election cycle, LWVIN published dozens of local voter guides through our organizations online voter information platform, VOTE411. In addition to helping provide voting information to 17K+ community members, the platform was also used to assist 3K+ voters to register to vote in Indiana. On a nationwide level, the VOTE411 resource is used by 6 million+ voters annually. - Advocacy: At both the local and state levels, the LWVIN engages in organized advocacy for policies that fight voter suppression, combat climate change, ensure access to healthcare, fund public education and more. - Observer Corps: League members observe and take notes on public meetings that are paid little attention to, including city council meetings, election board meetings, and more. LWVIN observers ensure that these meetings are conducted in a transparent, organized manner. They also report information to League leadership, which is ultimately dispersed to the public. - Voter Service Committees: Local League members register and inform voters through tabling at events, hosting candidate debates, as well as hosting town halls to inform the community on vital issues. - Partnerships: The League of Women Voters of Indiana serves on 8+ coalitions that advocate for issues affecting American voters. We partner with coalition memberssuch as Common Cause Indiana and the Indiana NAACPon separate initiatives as well. Our 25 local chapters manage additional partnerships with educational institutions, libraries, organizations representing ethnic groups, election boards, legal organizations, civic/voter engagement groups, and more.
