Answer: Kettle Moraine Land Trust (KMLT) is an accredited, 501C(3) non-profit created to preserve the natural heritage of the Kettle Moraine watersheds and nearby lands in Walworth County, Wisconsin through partnerships in land conservancy and resource management. During 2000, the KMLT was incorporated to manage a conserved, heavily wooded property called Island Woods, located centrally in the Lauderdale Lakes chain of lakes. From that beginning, KMLT now manages several Preserves though out Walworth County and partners with land owners who create Conservation Easements to preserve a portion of their property. KMLT supports the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WI DNR) by helping manage State Natural Areas (SNA) located within Walworth County. In 2008, KMLT Adopted the Beulah Bog SNA through the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin and continues to partner with the WI DNR to manage this SNA by organizing volunteer work days to restore the upland wood Oak Savanna that surrounds the four bogs. KMLT volunteers also participate in workdays organized by the WI DNR on other local SNAs. The Board of KMLT is composed of volunteers who bring their diverse work experiences to the challenges of land conservation. KMLT has one professional staff member, Maggie Zoellner, Program Manager. Land conservation can be accomplished in several ways: land owners establishing Conservation Easements that are held by KMLT, donating land to KMLT, and making donations that help KMLT purchase land. You can also help conserve land by volunteering for KMLT workdays!
