He was named an NBA All-Star in 1994, All-Defensive Second Team 1992-93, League's Sixth Man of the Year 1996-97. Starks averaged 14.1 points as a Knick, playing a key role on the 1994 Eastern Conference Championship team. John was the New York Knicks' all-time career leader in 3-point field goals (982), 12th in total points (8,489), eighth in assists (2,394) and seventh in steals (711). John Starks is most notably known for "The Dunk," one of the most famous plays in team history when Starks made a long drive to the net to dunk on a herd of Bulls in the final minute of New York's win over Chicago in Game Two of the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals on May 25, 1993. In the front office of the Knicks, John continues the longstanding tradition of community involvement established during his playing days. He is also a perennial figure in the Metropolitan area with a myriad of youth-oriented efforts. John Starks' Nonprofit & Community Involvement 1994, he established the nonprofit John Starks Foundation, which provides monetary grants to NY, CT, NJ and Tulsa, OK college-bound students who demonstrate academic achievement, a commitment to community service, and financial need.
