Answer: Jobs Transition Initiative was a workforce development nonprofit that sponsors middle-skills training for residents in poverty throughout the Westchester area. Our mission was to offer people and struggling families with real prospects for economic security. In the developed world, industries are experiencing rapid growth in middle-skill occupations. These occupations require having a high school diploma/GED and technical training. Many employers are struggling to fill these jobs. We focused on assisting under-served community members in New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, and Yonkers. Poverty rates in these three cities is at 11.1%, 16%, and 17%. One of the most pressing issues in the world today is inequality of opportunity. We placed a larger focus on elevating people out of poverty. By elevating people out of poverty, we build a stronger and better Westchester County. We worked with local residents, businesses, government, and other nonprofits to improve the quality of life in New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, and Yonkers. Entry into our workforce development pipeline was free for individuals and struggling families to acquire the necessary skills and training for the modern world. As many employers in the developed world face the challenges to fill middle-skill occupations, we saw this as an opportunity to build the future of impoverished residents in Westchester.
