Answer: Our mission is to help people become self-sufficient. HWH leads a partner-based ecosystem of agencies that help people in Denver become and remain self-sufficient members of the community. Consistent with best practice standards among those serving homeless, unskilled, and unemployed individuals, HWH programs integrate paid workforce skills training and mental health support into a housing-first approach to delivering services. Individuals residing in, or eligible for a homeless shelter bed are screened against a pre-determined list of criteria, and qualifying individuals are invited to join. Each person that joins (student) receives a subsidy for shelter housing, a modest work/study stipend, mental health support, and case management for the duration of their participation. The first training program focuses on culinary arts skill-building and consists of three phases: 1. ServSafe certificate (2 months), 2. Culinary apprentice training (4 months), 3. Supported job placement (up to 6 months of stipend, housing, mental health support). New cohorts of trainees begin approximately every two months (depending on public health restrictions.)
