Answer: Helping Hand House was founded in 1984 to ensure that no family in our community would go without a home. When families feel safe and are supported, they can begin the work of re-building their lives. The number of homeless families continues to grow in our area, fed by inadequate housing, poverty, family violence, untreated mental illness and addiction, and poor economic conditions. One missed paycheck, a serious illness, or divorce can tip the balance between having a home and being homeless. We work to ensure that everyone has a chance to participate fully in community life. Our services foster self-respect, self-sufficiency, and stability. These elements are fundamental for family prosperity. Our programs require families to engage fully in the work of making permanent changes in their lives that will result in family health, permanent housing, and sufficient income. RESULTS Families in our programs are achieving things they once thought were unattainable. They are: * finishing educations * becoming better parents * saving money * learning new skills * re-gaining health * feeling proud of their accomplishments An average of 75% of families who graduate from our programs find and maintain permanent housing and 80% have improved financial conditions. Our goal is that they never need to enter a homeless shelter again. REKINDLING HOPE Hope makes dreams possible. Dreams motivate us to become more than we are. Families who have lost everything have lost hope as well. Through their work at Helping Hand House, they recover their hope. They dream again. And they learn how to make their dreams reality.
