Answer: Founded in 1935 as the citys first African -American civic organization, the GHBC has evolved into an active participant in the City of Houstons socioeconomic process. The organization is a 501(c)(6), not-for-profit, private, member-driven organization that serves the Greater Houston Area. Houston is the fourth-largest city in the United States, located in a culturally diverse metropolitan region of 5.3 million residents and growing at more than twice the national pace. African-Americans constitute 25 percent of the population. The GHBC helps its partners and members navigate Houstons large, diverse population, industries and the many nuances, which are unique to our city. The GHBC is the go-to organization for business development and community outreach partnership opportunities in the Houston African-American community. The HCCC is dedicated to supporting African-American small businesses in the areas of education, certification and accessing contracting opportunities and capital. The GHBC is Houstons premier source for identifying quality and qualified African-American, multi-sectored small businesses to do business with. The organization has a database of over 2,000 unique resources and members.
