Answer: The Greater Detroit Area Health Council (GDAHC) is southeastern Michigan's health care coalition of leaders from business, labor, hospitals and health systems, physician organizations, payers, government and community organizations that provide leadership on regional issues of health care quality, access and cost, and aligns leaders to activate transformative solutions through collaboration and partnerships. GDHAC is the nation's longest-standing multi-stakeholder collaborative dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing in our communities. GDAHC was founded and incorporated August 14, 1944, as the Detroit Hospital Council with the primary goal of improving the management of community health resources city-wide, providing health facility planning to hospitals. As the state of health care and health care delivery changed, the Council changed its focus from hospitals to becoming a coalition dedicated to the cost-effective allocation, management and use of healthcare resources. The Council continues its mission through innovative planning and strategies with strong collaborations and partnerships. Recognized nationally and locally, GDAHC serves as the leading influential health care coalition in the region. In 1982, the name was changed to the Greater Detroit Area Health Council or affectionately referred to as GDAHC (pronounced G-dack). Mission: GDAHC is a cross-sector, multi-stakeholder non-profit organization that leads innovative and transformational programs designed to improve health, increase access to whole-person care and ensure that health care is affordable. Vision: Healthy people. Healthy economy. Values: Innovation, awareness and connectedness, integrity, commitment, negotiation, and facilitation.
