Answer: Grain of Rice Project is a non-profit ministry, which seeks to empower Kenyan people with the love of Christ by helping them become self-sufficient, through providing an avenue for selling the handcrafted products they create, by giving financial support for students to complete their education, through support of our soccer team in Kibera, and through providing a safe haven for orphaned children. Most of the artists and children we work with live in the Kibera slum, which is the largest slum in East Africa. Some estimates indicate that as many as a million people live in the single square mile area that makes up Kibera. Life in Kibera is difficult. People live in simple shacks made of sticks, mud, and tin. There is no running water. Sewage runs rampant and many people survive on less than $1 a day. But Grain of Rice Project works to provide opportunities to people in Kibera to help them overcome some of their hardships. Although we cannot change all of Kibera, our hope is that the small things we can do to empower people will add up to make a big difference in their lives and will in turn spill over and make a difference in the lives of others. Join us in tipping the scale.
