Answer: FIDO is a non-profit, animal advocacy organization that works with dog owners to improve the quality of life for their outside dogswith a focus on dogs living isolated on the end of a chain. FIDO partners with Indianapolis residents to find alternatives to continuous chaining as a method of dog containment while promoting the Indianapolis Dog Care & Treatment ordinances. One of our goals is to make it easier and more convenient for owners to bring their dogs inside the home to be part of the family. Our areas of focus are the marginalized, under-served neighborhoods of Indianapolis. The citizens we meet often just need information and access to available resources to provide a more humane level of care. Many of the dogs we help have never been to a veterinarian and spend most of their lives outside. We provide support via our four core programs: Fence Program, Pet Food Pantry, Outreach, and Spay/Neuter Transport. Fence Program: Build secure fence enclosures to allow dogs to run safely and freely in their yards without the use of chains. Pet Food Pantry: Provide low-cost pet food and supplies to families experiencing hardship. Outreach: Provide support to clients including supplies, veterinary care, and wellness check-ins, provide resources and education to families of outside dogs, and assist Indianapolis Animal Care Services with dog neglect cases. Spay/Neuter Transport: Schedule, fund, and provide transportation for spay/neuter surgeries to reduce pet overpopulation. We work with local animal clinic partners to provide surgeries and vaccinations.
