Answer: FSO operates on the belief that musical engagement can be catalytic to human well-being, growth, and development. To that end, it offers: Social connection and an excuse to unplug . . . FSO provides a shared sense of community through unforgettable experiences with friends and family. The most common benefit reported by audience members is an increased sense of joy; that the orchestras concerts help them escape from the mundane aspects of their lives so they can be refreshed, inspired, and re-energized when they return home. Improved well-being and space to process emotion . . . Symphony concerts offer a comfortable meditative space and an opportunity to slow down and notice the way listening to music affects your well-being. The challenge and joy of learning something new . . . FSOs popular Link Up music education program introduces orchestral music to 90% of Northern Arizonas 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders as they play instruments, move, and sing with the live orchestra. Side-by-Side concerts are extraordinary opportunities for high-school instrumentalists to perform alongside FSO orchestra members. Students share the stage and develop musical relationships with their professional counterparts as they rehearse and perform music of the highest caliber. Since 2017, Music Director and Conductor Charles Latshaw has made the concert experience more welcoming to newcomers and traditionalists alike, regularly performing works by living composers. He brings tremendous zeal and an extraordinary ability to connect with audiences of all ages.
