Answer: Since 1976, Family Builders has been committed to breaking the cycle of child abuse and family violence by strengthening relationships and educating parents, professionals and the community. Family Builders was founded as "Parents Assistance Center" in 1976 by a social worker named Ann Hardy. Ann believed, as we do today, that parenting is a learned skill, and that at some point all parents need help. She saw a gap in the services provided to parents where abuse and neglect had occurred in the home, and began teaching parenting workshops around her kitchen table. She offered help, healing and hope to the families she served, many of whom were repeating a cycle of abuse that they had learned from their own parents. This important work continues today at Family Builders, and we also now provide a wide variety of group and individual services aimed at strengthening families to prevent child abuse, neglect and other family violence.
