Answer: Empower Dalit Women of Nepal, (EDWON) enables Dalit women, repressed by their caste and gender, to claim their human rights and live in dignity. Since 2003, EDWON has been assisting rural Dalit women to become agents of change. Our mission addresses the root causes of gender and caste-based discriminationand povertyby organizing women into empowerment groups. In these groups women develop solidarity and EDWON offers access to training and savings and loan activities, because economic and social empowerment go hand in hand. Dalit women are the leaders and decision-makers in their groups. Together they build solidarity and confidence, problem-solve, educate their children and take collective action. EDWONs bottom-up approach focuses directly on the United Nations Millennium Goals of womens empowerment, gender equality, poverty reduction, and universal education.
