Answer: Ellen Brodsky began filmmaking after a fifteen-year career in education and public health. She was a Peace Corps volunteer in the Democratic Republic of Congo, worked at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, led a National Training Center on HIV prevention for the Centers for Disease Control, and did training for the Safe Schools Program for Gay and Lesbian Students. Ellens first feature film which she directed is The Year We Thought About Love which follows the LGBTQ youth theater troupe, True Colors. Released in 2015, the film has played festivals around the world and is currently selling educational DVDs thought New Day Films. Brodsky co-produced At Home in Utopia, about radical Jewish Communists in the Bronx, which was broadcast on the award-winning PBS series, Independent Lens, in 2009. She has directed two award-winning shorts: Only One Boss, and Dental Farmer (with co-director, Dunya Alwan), which have played festivals on all seven continents. In addition, Brodsky produced two teacher training videos for the Welcoming Schools project of Human Rights Campaign: What do you know? Six to twelve year olds talk about gays and lesbians and What Can We Do? Bias, Bullying, and Bystanders. Brodsky has a Masters in Management from the Heller School, Brandeis University and a BA in Religion from Haverford College.
