In response to COVID-19 causing the destruction to the food supply chain and rising hunger, EWFR was established in May 2020. By purchasing and acquiring surplus food from farmers and other sources and distributing it to people in-need, food waste is reduced and the hungry are fed. We coordinate every step from finding sources of surplus food to organizing transportation to ensuring rescued crops are given to people with food insecurity for free. As of December 2020, we distributed 58 million pounds of fresh food to over 23 million people in 19 states through partnerships with 700 organizations.
