Answer: Dynamic Measurements, LLC (DML) is a technology start-up that applies patented, proprietary analysis of lightning strike data to assist in the exploration of oil and gas and other natural resources. The Company was founded by H. Roice Nelson, who was also the founder of Landmark, now a Halliburton subsidiary; Dr. Jim Siebert, a meteoroligst; and Les Denham, a geoscientist, The analysis is a very cost effective supplement to seismic data and can be used where seismic data is not available or not feasible. Lightning occurs everywhere, but both precisely where it strikes and the individual attributes of those strikes are related to shallow (or terralevis) earth currents. Both lightning strikes and lightning strike attributes cluster about geologic features. Since subsurface geology does not change, lightning strike density and attributes can be stacked, similar to seismic data. The clusters on the resulting density and lightning attribute maps create lineaments substantially consistent across different attribute maps. Resulting maps define surface projections of faults and stratigraphy at depth. Patent pending algorithms allow electrical information in lightning databases to calculate resistivity volumes, critical information in oil and gas exploration. Data defining lightning strike locations and attributes are available from public and private sources. Adding lightning strike data with other data - such as well control or previous or nearby seismic - plotting lightning density and attributes, and interpreting resistivity volumes create a geologic framework. Lightning databases are continuously updated since every storm adds new lightning strike data. This evergreen database provides an ever improving framework for exploration of hydrocarbons and minerals and for construction planning.
