Answer: DreamCatchers is the only Bay Area non-profit that focuses on high school readiness for low-income middle school students attending school in the Palo Alto Unified School District. DreamCatchers is uniquely positioned by focusing on low-income students and families within a well-resourced school district, providing family and social-emotional support in addition to an academic assistance program. Our students reside in both East Palo Alto and Palo Alto (predominantly the Buena Vista Mobile Home Park). DreamCatchers serves approximately 65 middle school students, 85 tutors and 100 parents. The program offers twice a week, structured, one-on-one, ongoing tutoring from near-peer high school or Stanford students. DreamCatchers staff work with students and tutors to customize academic plans for each student, tailored to their strengths and challenges. The well-evaluated and highly effective DreamCatchers model has a 90% attendance rate and 90% retention of students year over year.
