Answer: Artistry and Technique. Creativity and Collaboration. Dance In The Annex (DITA, pronounced DEE-tah) is a local, modern-dance collective whose mission is to secure, promote and enhance contemporary dance in Grand Rapids by fostering an appreciation of dance through education and performance opportunities. DITA regularly hosts master classes at the Wealthy Theatre Annex Front Studio (1110 Wealthy Street Se) featuring nationally acclaimed dance instructors. Classes are openly available at affordable rates to the community of contemporary dancers in the greater Grand Rapids area, but often attracting students from adjoining counties, who travel here because the opportunity does not exist elsewhere. With an emerging number of outstanding choreographers and dancers as students, DITA began to produce two annual dance concerts at the Wealthy Theatre. Salmagundi in the fall and Trip the Light in the spring. In addition, other arts organizations - including UICA, ArtWorks, ArtPeers, Art.Downtown, Site:Lab, TEDx Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Art Museum, ArtPrize and the Richard App Gallery - began to ask DITA to perform at their events. DITA wants to expand along with the growing appetite among Grand Rapids arts patrons for contemporary forms of expression that push boundaries.
