Answer: Crown Operations International, Ltd. is a 26-year old company based in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, just outside of Madison. Crown currently specializes in the processing of adhesive-roll materials and encapsulate sheets (such as PVB and PET) to hard and fragile substrates, such as glass and glass-like materials, called Crown PRELAM. Key product applications include automotive windshields and side lights, laminated graphics, commercial/governmental/ residential glazing for hurricane and earthquake resistance, and security protection. Key product benefits include ultraviolet (UV) absorption, low reflectivity, sound reduction, infrared (IR) reflection (heat blocking), and security/impact resistance (in compliance with the most stringent U.S. building code - Miami-Dade County, Florida), while maintaining visible light transmission. In other words, Crown PRELAM within layers of glass is analogous to Intel Inside within a computer both unseen but powerful elements that yield outstanding end-user benefits. Crown uses roll-to-roll nip technology for laminated automotive windshields and side lights (OEM and aftermarket), architectural glass and specialty-market glass applications both domestically and internationally. Adhesive production capabilities can range from as wide as 2 meters to as thin as .002 mil to > .090 mil. Historically, Crowns business started by applying optically-clear coating (in roll form) to large printed materials and billboard-size substrates including photographs and decals. Many of these products were used for advertising media including backlighting, transparencies, and museum displays by laminating roll materials to hard substrates, such as glass, to fragile substrates with properties similar to silicone. Given our background of applying roll-to-roll or roll-to-solid substrates to fragile and semi-fragile surfaces, we are exploring potential photovoltaic (PV) applications as we have production capabilities.
