Answer: Community Energy Project, Inc. (CEP) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, incorporated in the State of Oregon since 1987. We began in 1979 as a project of Responsible Urban Neighborhood Technologies at the height of, and in response to, a national crisis in both energy commodities and social welfare, and in our 43 years, we have matured with our mission as our guiding force: We empower peopleregardless of life circumstance with the appropriate tools and resources to maintain healthier, more livable homes, control their utility costs and conserve natural resources. Our shared vision is a future where all people can afford to live in their homes with dignity, comfort, and safety. Our mission translates to service: We conduct over 100 Do-It-Yourself community workshops for more than 1,300 families at over 140 different Portland-area locations annually. We adapt our workshops to the audience and cover a range of home-related topics: weatherization, home-energy education, and lead-poisoning prevention. For the less able bodied (low-income seniors and people with disabilities) we provide in-home services such as emergency safety repairs and installation of small-measure weatherization materials. We perform as many as 425 services annually; oftentimes, its necessary to conduct repairs before weatherizing, so with 425 services we can assist roughly 300 families.
