Answer: Community Builders of Kansas City (CBKC) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit Community Development Corporation based in Kansas City, Missouri. CBKC's Mission is to improve communities by reclaiming neighborhoods and developing quality housing and related services. The Mount Cleveland Initiative, which encompasses over 70 acres and $150M, included the development of a Federally Qualified Health Center, a Day Care Center, a Drug Treatment Center, more than 85 affordable units of family housing, a grocery-anchored 150,000 SF retail center and more than 150,000 SF of Class A Office Space. The redevelopment effort was implemented between 1991 and 2005. CBKC continues to own and manage the retail, office and rental housing components of this initiative. In 2018, CBKC returned to its roots and changed its name from Swope Community Builders to Community Builders of Kansas City. The rebranding effort was completed following the merger of Swope Community Builders and Blue Hills Community Services Corporation. CBKC has developed and renovated a combination of approximately 700 units of affordable rental housing throughout Kansas City, Missouri. CBKC's holistic approach to community development works to overcome community challenges and stabilize neighborhoods.
