Answer: Congressional internships are exclusive opportunities that take place in one of the most expensive cities in the U.S. and are really only reserved for the students who can afford it. We believe every student who wants to make a difference in politics should have the opportunity, regardless of political connections and financial means. We were created to address the lack of socioeconomic diversity among members of Congressional staff. Each intern is paired in an office to work either with their hometown representative or a member they align with politically. They also receive a full-ride scholarship covering the cost of housing, transportation, food, and a professional wardrobe. The program goes beyond providing resources and extends to professional and character development. With leadership workshops and exposure to governing, students participating in the program will be catalysts for encouraging peers and adults in their communities to emerge as public service stewards. This transfer of knowledge between peers and adults will significantly impact how a community views and participates in politics. Through these efforts, we aim to increase diversity on Capitol Hill and provide students an immersive experience. Bipartisanship is a cornerstone of College to Congress. Our interns learn the importance of moving beyond conflict and forging compromise by being matched with a mentor from the opposite party during their time in Washington, D.C.
