Answer: The Climate Leadership Council represents the broadest climate coalition in U.S. history. It promotes a bipartisan carbon dividends framework as the most politically-viable, equitable and pro-business climate solution. The Council and its Founding Members believe that America needs a consensus climate solution that bridges partisan divides, strengthens our economy and protects our shared environment. That is why our diverse coalition of 22 leading companies, four major environmental organizations and opinion leaders from across the political spectrum have come together to develop and promote a bipartisan climate solution based on carbon dividends. Our carbon dividends plan would charge fossil fuel companies for their carbon emissions and return all the money directly to the American people through quarterly checks. Under our plan, U.S. carbon emissions will be cut in half by 2035 and a family of four will receive about $2,000 per year in carbon dividends. Our plan will also remove unnecessary carbon regulations, giving businesses the regulatory predictability they need to innovate and invest in low carbon technologies.
