Answer: Our mission at Citizens for Safe Schools is to create a safe and drug free community where all children especially those at risk for delinquency, academic failure or victimization have opportunities to succeed, build resiliency and character and all adults feel empowered to help them! At Citizens For Safe Schools we provide caring adults for one-to-one mentoring of at-risk kids. In our Kids in the Middle mentoring program, we match volunteer adults with youth in the 4th-8th grade and the two spend a minimum of one hour per week for a minimum of one year together. We have a proven track record of contributing greatly to the Klamath Community. In a national Department of Education Study, our mentoring program rated in the top 5 percent of mentoring programs across the country in terms of positive outcomes for youth. Outcomes include the kids in our program being less likely to use drugs/alcohol and less likely to commit an act of violence while simultaneously being more likely to plan for their future. We are highly satisfied with the success of our efforts and believe fostering positive youth development is the best way to ensure future viability of rural communities like ours.
