Answer: CIHVA is the 2nd busiest ambulance service in Suffolk County, NY. We receive over 5000 calls for medical assistance per year. CIHVA has been providing quality, caring & responsive pre-hospital emergency health care to the communities of Central Islip, Hauppauge, Village of Islandia, & the Hauppauge Industrial Park, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since 1955. Volunteer members are only asked to maintain a minimum of 6 hours of in-house duty each week. These in house duty crews are supplemented by other volunteer personnel that may respond to HQ in personal vehicles & then respond to the scene of the emergency with the appropriate apparatus. CIHVA provides their membership with benefits that include, but not limited to, the following: FREE AHA Training, FREE EMT/CC Training, FREE Basic Hazmat training, FREE Defensive Driving course, FREE Accident Insurance, Medical scholarship, Annual Paramedic scholarship, LOSAP rewards programs, as well as a property tax exemption(s). CIHVA further employs a staff of EMTs, EMT-CC, & Paramedics that provide 2 ambulances & a paramedic response truck. These crews are deployed through the district to minimize response times & in-turn improve patient outcomes. To that end CIHVA also participates in the "TAC" program with the other 4 volunteer ambulance corps in the town of Islip. This program provides additional EMS services during weekdays when call volume is highest.
