Answer: Center for Immigration Protection (CIP) provides comprehensive pro-bono legal services to immigrants seeking protection in the United States. CIP was founded by two San Francisco-based attorneys who identified a critical need for high-quality pro-bono representation among vulnerable immigrant populations escaping violence and persecution in their home countries. Among these protection-seeking immigrants is an especially at-risk class, LGBT asylum seekers. At present-day, there are discriminatory laws criminalizing homosexuality in over 80 countries, applying the death penalty for violations in at least 10 of those nations. In addition to facing persecution at the hands of the government, LGBT people throughout the world find themselves with no legitimate means of protection from abuse at the hands of their families and members of their communities. With nowhere to turn, many make their way to the US seeking refuge within our borders. In order to address the needs of LGBT immigrants, Center for Immigrant Protection is launching with its flagship program, the LGBT Asylum Project.
