Cape Romain has more than 70 years of history providing these services to government and public clients including the South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia Departments of Transportation, the US Army Corp of Engineers, the US Navy, the US Coast Guard, and South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia Ports Authorities, Water Authorities, County Administrations - along with many private owners and associations. In 1946, Andrew Binks DuPre and his brother James H. DuPre founded Cape Romain Contractors to provide complete biological, topographical, and ecological services in the development of fish and duck ponds and in the promotion of conservation practices with all kinds of wildlife. Andrew was the longtime manager of the Cape Romain and Bulls Island National Wildlife Refuges, and James was a graduate in Civil Engineering from the Citadel. Their company was believed to be the first of its kind in the nation. As Cape Romain Contractors succeeded in the coming decades, it gradually shifted more toward construction than ecology. Binks DuPre passed in 1979, and his son Anthony Tin DuPre, who had grown up in the business, took over the helm of Cape Romain Contractors.
