Answer: Black Forest Fire/Rescue Black Forest Fire/Rescue provides fire and emergency medical services to approximately 40,000 people in over 50 square miles of unincorporated El Paso County (just northeast of Colorado Springs, Colorado). We've proudly served the Black Forest community since 1945. That year, volunteers went door to door, asking each family for a $1 donation to buy the first fire truck. To house the truck, the volunteers built the first station at the corner of Black Forest Road and Shoup Road. Soon afterward, the department added a rescue squad, which gradually grew into a transporting ambulance service. Today, Black Forest Fire/Rescue is a combination department, which means we have both volunteer members and paid members. All members are required to meet the same high standards of training in both emergency medicine and fire suppression.
