They have forced us to dilute the potency of our truth. The only pathway to collective liberation is the significant, sustained disruption of these systems. You have to effectively throw a wrench into the system and bring it to a standstill until the powers-that-be are forced to capitulate. Stories are the wrenches. They penetrate like arrows, pierce the soul and infuse our bodies with deep understanding. Every sentence uttered in truth offers hope, nuance and an antidote to the lies fueled by racist, sexist, ableist, homophobic and xenophobic prejudice. At Awake Storytelling, we are committed to shifting the culture through the power of video, photos, and storytelling making it untenable for the status quo to remain. We exist to disrupt the narratives, acknowledge institutional origins of harm, illuminate dominating hierarchies and remind the world that a common thread of humanity binds us. We support the many movements for justice around the world by highlighting the practices, actions, rituals, modalities, communities, strategies, entities and organizations that fuel the movement for collective freedom.
