Answer: The mission of Arcos Institute is to alleviate communication barriers in institutional and community settings critical to individual and collective welfare. This includes: healthcare, human services, community organizing and the justice system. We contribute to this field of growing international relevance by building pillars in two complementary ways: (1) Consulting and training on language access planning and policy development; (2) Designing, developing and offering continuing education trainings for interpreters. Our continuing education trainings have been granted credits by WA DSHS and the WA Administration of the Courts. With longer trainings, we offer interpreters the opportunity to develop their abilities in three critical branches of interpreter education: skills building (modes of interpreting), context-specific knowledge (terminology and systemic information), protocols and ethics (analytical abilities and situational decision-making).
