Our enduring work engages cultural travelers, enriches community, and informs future stewards. We celebrate our beginnings in 1973, when our founder Phil Zuckerman drove his 53 Saab from Denver to Boston loaded up with a letterpress, an extra engine, and all his worldly possessions. After a few years learning hand bookbinding, paper making, and editing, Phil launched Applewood Press on July 4, 1976 as America celebrated its 200th anniversary of independence. We have since grown from these roots to publish a diverse range of quality and best-selling booksfiction and non-fiction, for adults and childrenthat inform, entertain, and delight cultural travelers.
