Answer: Since 2010, An Open Book has promoted literacy by bringing childrens authors and illustrators of the highest caliber into over 120 DC-area Title 1 schools and giving books to students and their classroom and school libraries. AOB provides dynamic, high-quality programming in DC-area public and public charter schools to students from pre-K through high school for students furthest from educational justice. After each presentation, we give participating students a copy of the featured title, the author and/or illustrator signs the books while enjoying a short one-on-one conversation with each student, and we donate a set of the author or illustrator's books to the classroom and school libraries. Our programming includes several types of literacy support for students: * Author and Illustrator Visits, including a program to support new and emerging artists of color * Book Distribution * Pre- and Post-Event Extension Activities * Artist and STEM Residences * Little Free Library Network Presentations are as varied and creative as the books words and pictures authors and illustrators have incorporated poetry workshops, bookmaking, collage, mindfulness, and movement into their presentations. An Open Book also follows selected events with in-class extension activities and coordinated post-event extensions with our nonprofit partners.
