Answer: The American College of Toxicology (ACT) is a professional association dedicated to providing an interactive forum for the advancement and exchange of scientific information in the field of toxicologythe study of detrimental effects of substances on biological systems. Members of the College work primarily in pharmaceutical and biotech companies, contract research organizations, or regulatory agencies, or as consultants. ACT serves its members by promoting the exchange of information and perspectives on applied toxicology and safety assessment through yearround educational opportunities, an Annual Meeting, and its peerreviewed scientific journal, International Journal of Toxicology. Founded in 1977, the American College of Toxicology (ACT) was established to provide an organization for scientists in the field of toxicology, with the goals of advancing the field of toxicology and acting as a forum for the open exchange of regulatory and applied toxicology information between regulators, academia, and industry. The mission of ACT is to educate, lead, and serve professionals in toxicology and related disciplines by promoting the exchange of information and perspectives on applied toxicology and safety assessment. ACT was one of the first societies to offer Continuing Education (CE) courses and established the annual Salary Survey that continues today as a valuable resource to those in the field. The Salary Survey, peer-reviewed articles in the field of toxicology, and the CIR (Cosmetic Ingredient Review) series are published in International Journal of Toxicology, the official journal of ACT. Educational opportunities are available to member and nonmember scientists worldwide (some in conjunction with the International Union of Toxicology) and include CE courses at the Annual Meeting in November, as well as courses provided at various times during year. Additionally, ACT offers free webinars and ToxChats podcasts. Become a member!
